Rider of the Month: Torsten

“I’m Torsten, 51 years old and I work part-time as an editor in the motorcycle sector. In my free time, I love to relax on my motorcycle and I like to travel a lot, on average between 20000 and 25000 km per year. Riding a motorcycle is therefore more of a passion for me than just a hobby and so I diligently fill our TT Motorcycle blog with travel experiences, motorcycle tests and various modifications. Yes, my wife Carmen is there with her bike and camera as often as possible. With the German low mountain ranges of Odenwald, Spessart, Vogelsberg and Taunus in the immediate vicinity, we have the ideal area for cruising right on our doorstep. For the new year 2024, we have already planned some trips through other European countries.”

1. Which Brixton do you ride? What do you like best about it?

After testing the Crossfire 500 and liking it, I ended up choosing the more powerful Cromwell 1200. I fell in love with its lines and the performance of the beastly engine. Its riding characteristics are sensational and the two riding modes give you a bit of Mr Jekyll and Mr Hyde at the start.

2. How long have you been riding a motorcycle?

I’ve been riding motorcycles for over 30 years now, but the Brixton is actually my very first brand new bike in that time.

3. What is the perfect weather for you to ride?

All my bikes are always registered. I used to ride in all weathers, but now I’ve become a bit more cautious. I no longer ride in ice, salt and snow. I like to ride on cold and sunny days, but preferably early in the morning or in the early evening when the heavy traffic has died down.

4. Which accessories are indispensable for you on the motorcycle?

My Legend Gear bags are always on board. For a few cool pictures, my camera and the Cardo with music in my ear are a must for me.

5. Why did you decide on this model?

On the one hand, I was convinced by the look. And although there are comparable models on the market, in the end it was the driving characteristics where the competition couldn’t keep up.

6. What was the most dangerous situation when riding your motorcycle?

In 2010, a dog ran into my motorcycle at around 60 km/h and unfortunately lost its life. I was very lucky and nothing much happened to me, but it was still a bad experience.

7. Who is your favourite motorcycle buddy and why?

My favourite thing is to ride with my wife Carmen and preferably in the south of France. Apart from that, there are a few good friends that I like travelling with.

8. How often do you get to ride your motorcycle?

I also ride to work several times a week. I usually build myself a little tour on the way home and clear my head after work.

9. Where do you ride your Brixton in your free time?

We travel a lot in the low mountain ranges here on our doorstep, but we also love to go to the Vosges, the south of France, the Dolomites and Lake Garda. Unfortunately, the latter didn’t work out in 2023 due to time constraints, but we already have a lot planned for 2024.

10. What was the most beautiful place you explored with your Brixton?

So far, it’s been a great day trip through the Spessart. This year, my Cromwell 1200 will see the highest passes in the Alps, as well as the Col de Nivolet.
